I'm mostly reblogging watermelon, food, cute animals, and random, random things at the moment. Am sort of torn about linking J-fanart since most of the artists hate reposting (to the point of region-locking their sites and/or taking them down) AND have those little DO NOT REPOST notices up on their sites. >___< But as long as there's credit??? >__> And what are the moral implications of posting fanart from sites that NO LONGER EXIST. Thoughts?

Oh, and I'm posting from the new/refurbished (given to me by a friend with some upgrades) desktop. I need to get a new video card and more RAM, but HAVING SPEAKERS IS AMAZING.

And I went to DeYoung on Sunday and saw the Olmec exhibit (BIG HEADS!). I took exactly 0 pictures of the museum (sadface) because the boy and I got there so late that we basically ran through it. DDDD: It was neat, though.

The numbing agent finally wore off! (Filling fell out and had a small cavity that I had to take care of today.) I CAN GO EAT SOMETHING! YAY! (Yes, I was torturing myself with pictures of delicious food while unable to eat and having skipped lunch today. It's HOW I ROLL, OKAY?)

Oh, that's who you are! Tumblr can be so confusing because everyone has different usernames so I'm always like, "Do I know this follower? Who are they??"

Yeah, I tried a bunch of my usual ones and they were all taken. >___< And then my creative brain juices were totally failing me.

I continue to feel terrible about the J-fanart reposting and yet I am doing it. I don't think it is ethically justifiable if the artist had made some sort of explicit statement against reposting. The ethical thing to do would be to repost only with permission.

Anyway, I think the reposting-without-permission not OK, but I have also seen the benefits to myself when other ppl do it, sob. And the benefits to others when I do it. It is probably less bad when there is attribution and a link to the artist in some form.

It bothers me that tumblr culture creates a climate that encourages the recirculation of images (all images! not just fanart) without attribution. The trend at least in W-internet-spaces seems to be toward the pretense that all images are, in effect, public domain. This makes it easy to conveniently forget that one should apply different standards to J-fanart than to, say, cat macros.

And what are the moral implications of posting fanart from sites that NO LONGER EXIST.

This I have tried to justify to myself on the grounds that the work might be LOST FOREVARRR if a third party didn't (re)post it. Idk. If artist has vanished from the internets entirely, there's no way of discovering her stance on reposting (which would be the ethical thing to do, right), sooo...in absence of any C&D order imma say the gain to humanity as a whole outweighs potential harm to the vanished artist lawl I am making this up.
