I've been sick with the flu this week and stayed home from work. Am NOT looking forward to going back tomorrow. UGH.

In other news, thought I'd do the reading meme, what the heck.

What are you reading now?

The Omnivore's Dilemma by Michael Pollan. I started it in January via Overdrive but it expired and got returned so I got it back off hold finally and am finishing the last bit now. I would be done by now but I really was too sick to read this past while.

What did you just finish reading?

A Conspiracy of Kings by Megan Whalen Turner. I tried reading The Thief about a bajillion years ago but just bounced off the first person POV. Tried again last week and read all four of the books in the series like I was eating candy. Crack candy. I literally, COULD NOT STOP and just went through all four like hotcakes. (I was kind of underwhelmed by The Thief still, but Queen of Attolia was seriously like HOMG where have you been all my life?!!!

What will you read next?

That's up in the air. I've got a handful of books borrowed from the library and another couple borrowed from the library via Overdrive . . . .

Oh gawd, Claymore is so amazing.

Love.

I've also finally been sucked into tumblr. D: [personal profile] inkstone's fault.

http://starlitsea.tumblr.com

I'm mostly reblogging watermelon, food, cute animals, and random, random things at the moment. Am sort of torn about linking J-fanart since most of the artists hate reposting (to the point of region-locking their sites and/or taking them down) AND have those little DO NOT REPOST notices up on their sites. >___< But as long as there's credit??? >__> And what are the moral implications of posting fanart from sites that NO LONGER EXIST. Thoughts?

Oh, and I'm posting from the new/refurbished (given to me by a friend with some upgrades) desktop. I need to get a new video card and more RAM, but HAVING SPEAKERS IS AMAZING.

And I went to DeYoung on Sunday and saw the Olmec exhibit (BIG HEADS!). I took exactly 0 pictures of the museum (sadface) because the boy and I got there so late that we basically ran through it. DDDD: It was neat, though.

The numbing agent finally wore off! (Filling fell out and had a small cavity that I had to take care of today.) I CAN GO EAT SOMETHING! YAY! (Yes, I was torturing myself with pictures of delicious food while unable to eat and having skipped lunch today. It's HOW I ROLL, OKAY?)

GREAT NEWS: Congrats to [personal profile] bell and [personal profile] zulu! SO HAPPY FOR BOTH OF YOU!!!!

Personal news: Super-big, responsible adult-type life changes on the horizon. Blargh. Still in a relationship. Working tons. Getting fat. D:

Going to the SF Chinatown Community Street Fair and Parade this weekend!

Not-news: Why are you so gooooood, 7 Seeds?! (I recently caught up on a bunch of chapters as a different "group" is scanning it really fast now. So damn good.) If you haven't read it, read it. It starts off extremely garbled and confusing but settles down after a few chapters and just becomes great. Aaaaaah.

Hourou Musuko and Kimi ni Todoke anime = also excellent, though I seriously want to shake the leads in KnT at the moment. The friends are so great, though. *wipes away a tear*

OMG, SKIP BEAT! OMGGGGG!!!! Also, I love you, Mouko. Srsly. (And yes, I agree. Kyouko - YOUR FACE IS SO SCARY, ARRRGH. But Mouko, your blackmail is so super-effective, OHOHOHOHO.)

I-I really don't have much else to say right now. -__-;

Um.

. . . going to AX in 3.5 hours and I haven't packed, slept, or done half a dozen other things.

>____< THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH HOURS IN THE DAY!

Birthday was rather laid back and nice (got treated to lunch by my boss). Only worked until 7:30 last night (could have gone home earlier but I wanted to get as much done before taking my vacation as possible).

Am obsessively watching Yo soy Betty la fea on Youtube. >__>;;;

Happy birthday, Usagi and Chibi-Usa! LOL. Happy belated birthday, Tamahome. XDDD

Day 21

Mar. 21st, 2010 11:42 pm

This is depressing. I mean, as wonderful a thing as the internet is, it's a double-edged sword in unexpected ways too.

Didn't do much this weekend which is regrettable in some ways and . . . completely not regrettable in others. I really needed some down time. Seriously. I'm still trying NOT to give myself another cough headache. I've come close once or twice (as in felt the initial sharp pain but not the resulting hours-long aching), but I'm staving it off. -__-;

I'm currently re-watching The 10th kingdom and they have just gone through the mirror into the 9 Kingdoms. (I never remember the first part in the real world because when I first saw the mini-series I missed the first installment.) FYI, the book adaptation was terrible. I borrowed it from the library once to my everlasting regret.

Day 20

Mar. 20th, 2010 11:58 pm
bluerabbit: (Amira)
Missed posting yesterday, in the process of missing today. Nothing really going on . . . still sick, really tired, and I dunno. Yesterday was nice and warm; today actually got kind of chilly again (Boo, it's spring! Stay warm!).

Salmonella Men on Planet Porno is a really weird anthology, WTF.

Day 13

Mar. 13th, 2010 11:06 pm
bluerabbit: (upset)
Today had its ups and downs. Don't really want to go into that. -__-;

Something to add to the "up" column - won another free book from Goodreads. Yay for new books I don't have to pay for! :)

Something to add to the "down" column - the reasonably priced copy of the Kiki's Delivery Service novel I ordered a week ago just got refunded and the only available copies are almost $20 with shipping. :(

Day 12

Mar. 12th, 2010 08:47 pm
bluerabbit: (Fail)
Today's realization: I am totally at sea without my cell phone. UGH, dependency on modern technology sucks.

Also, I need more icons. T__T

Day 11

Mar. 11th, 2010 11:36 pm
bluerabbit: (the horror!)
Passed out last night so no entry. Am feeling really not so hot lately, even though am ostensibly on the road to recovery. Really, nonstop coughing leading to headaches = A VERY BAD THING.

I think I've resolved the issue with my laptop being wonky (WTF, how did my virtual paging file go down to 63MBs?!). Finished a book and am now only 4 books behind on my goal of reading 52 books this year. (I realize some of you can mostly likely read 52 books in a month, but I find it hard to find the time to do so lately, which is why a longish commute is not entirely a bad thing. Also, my attention keeps wandering. At least reading on the train keeps me focused. I can't write or draw or anything on trains because they are always crowded and I am paranoid about people looking at and judging me. But a book's a book unless I start reading something like romance novels with shirtless men on the covers all in pink, and then I will admittedly feel embarrassed. Sorry, romance novel readers. I should totally not feel that way. I am aware, of this, and yet I still do.)

Some WTF really?! things going on in my life lately. Will report back on that later, I guess, depending on how things go. Parents are strange creatures.

. . . I'm pretty sure I'm getting fatter despite walking more. D: Dammit, eating regular meals is apparently NOT OKAY. I cannot wait until I get a damn toaster so I can go back to bringing lunch. >__<

. . . aw crap, my library book's overdue again. This is the second time it's happened this year and I seriously haven't had an overdue book before for years upon years. And it doesn't even have to happen because you can renew online now if I weren't such a dunderhead that I keep forgetting to check the due date. Blargh. -__-; I kind of miss getting the due date stamped in the book (I spent a lot of time as a library volunteer in elementary school stamping check out cards. It's kind of a soothing process.). I always manage to lose the slip.

Day 6

Mar. 6th, 2010 02:38 pm
bluerabbit: (Default)
Aw, dammit, missed yesterday's post. To be fair, I only came back to drop off stuff after work and then I immediately went to dinner and hung out with people since I'm feeling a little better. And then I wasn't back until 2:30 whereupon I took a shower and passed out immediately (unintentionally).

. . . WAIT. Hourou Musuko got licensed?! O_O

Day 4

Mar. 4th, 2010 10:51 pm
bluerabbit: (Amira)
Walked past this on my way to BART after work. There were A LOT of people protesting - definitely in the hundreds. A lot of chanting, some dancing (no, seriously), and one person was whirling their sign the way those people standing on street corners do to attract cars driving by to their place of business. O__O A TON of motorcyle and other cops. I walked right past the KRON 4 news vans, and the protest seemed very peaceful.

I was called up by [personal profile] troisroyaumes and then randomly went to The Disposable Film Festival with her and her boyfriend. It was good! A lot of really creative films. :)

And we talked a little about our project. XDDD

Day 3

Mar. 3rd, 2010 10:57 pm
bluerabbit: (Amira)
. . . I'm starting to remember why I stopped journaling as often. Because my life is about two shades less interesting than watching paint dry? Uh, Oscar (my rose plant) is not doing so hot (yes, all four of them). Roses always have to be finicky, don't they. ): Any suggestions? (Lilliput, on the other hand, is doing wonderfully and growing HUGE. I should have taken some picture before . . . especially of Oscar pre-wilting and slowly dying. >__>)

Almost done book two of Guin Saga. I'm debating reading book three or The Demon's Lexicon or Salmonella Men on Planet Porno (both library books, SMoPP's due first) next. Hrrrrm.

Ugh, it's freezing in here. *goes to turn on the heat*
bluerabbit: (Default)
Here, have an extremely scattered post:

Goal for March - post a day!
Goal for the year - read 52 novels. I'm already behind. -__-;

In other news, the Guin Saga novel series is a lot more engaging than the anime. And at this point, everyone seems competent too. Haha, too bad that apparently doesn't last through the first sixteen volumes.

Why is Piano no Mori so awesome? SO glad KEFI found a translator!

My brother went to see Shutter Island, I got a little bit of context about the story and I told him the entire plot because obvious story is obvious. Kind of like how I knew the story of Fern Gully x Dances With Wolves + sprinkle of Pocahontas in the first five minutes.

I have a rose plant (it's actually four in one pot) named Oscar (could technically give them each a name but am afraid that they will start dying on me) and a peace lily named Lilliput (if I get another it'll be Lillabit) now to take up some space in my apaato.

I am still D: about the lack of a bookshelf, but being the lame (yet ingenious!) person that I am, I converted part of my linen closet into a makeshift bookshelf as I do not possess many linens and yet seem to have acquired copious volumes of reading material, etc.

If you don't awwww at this you either have no heart or hate kittens.

World's tallest dog.

G'night!
bluerabbit: (the horror!)
Soooo exhausted. I basically worked something like an eleven hour day today. >__>;

How cool is this, though? Turning wood into bone!

Okay, sleep.
bluerabbit: (Frederica)
Of course Takei read Jojo's Bizarre Adventure as a kid (along with everyone else, LOL). It explains SO MUCH. <3 It's lots of fun to think about all the mangaka Araki's influenced through his work, from CLAMP to the Yu-Gi-Oh mangaka.

As for me, I'd LOVE to be inspired by something right now. I'm currently slogging away at my overdue project and real life stuff. -__-;
bluerabbit: (Default)
Took exam, moved in with some friends for the time being, am looking for work, and hopefully will be writing (am in the middle of something RIGHT NOW) and reading a lot more. However, can't really check twitter and DW as much as I'd like, though LJ is okay (reasons are complicated, errr, mostly RL/fandom divide). So I will be out and about and reading posts and such (and hopefully buy packaging/stamps and make it to the darn post office this week), and if I don't comment it's not that I don't care but maybe I haven't had a chance to read it/am reading it days later. Just an FYI.

If anyone needs to get in touch with me, e-mail is probably fastest. I may also be around on G-chat (for once)?

And sorry our convo got cut off last time Tari, people came home and by the time I got back to the computer you'd logged out. :( See you for lunch tomorrow!
bluerabbit: (the horror!)
Ugh. The mouse situation is getting out of hand and ridiculous. It was SITTING ON A CHAIR TODAY. A CHAIR. I had SIX GUY FRIENDS IN THE APARTMENT (to look at furniture) HELP ME DRIVE OUT MOUSE #2 today. ARRRRGH. ON A CHAIR.

So, um, have some reading material. Neko Mix Genkitan Toraji (by the author of Basara and 7 Seeds) about humanity's epic fight against mice with supernatural powers and one man (+one kitten)'s quest to save his kidnapped son from the Magic Mouse (. . . no, I am not kidding). The concept is so WTF, but since it's Tamura, of course it's good.
bluerabbit: (Default)
So it's July 4th weekend and I will be staying at home and doing work. Most of my friends are at AX anyway. But what are you guys (Americans and non-Americans alike) doing this weekend? Any barbeques or picnics? Who's going to watch fireworks? I want to live vicariously! XD

Also, if you're in the Berkeley area (pointedly looks at [personal profile] troisroyaumes, the Berkeley Marina July 4th events are fun. If went last year and am sad I missed the dragon boats and my brother and I didn't stick around for the fireworks (too bad). I did get to see an awesome tiger bike while walking over the overpass, though (no buses after 6:30 but they block off the freeway overpass so you can walk back . . . it's a pretty easy walk)! There was a tail on the back that moved back and forth and everything! (I actually recently saw it in North Berkeley parked on the sidewalk as I was on my way back from Safeway. <3)
bluerabbit: (Default)
Hurray for a journal I can write in! :D I'm still figuring things out (subscription/access/policies/etc.) with this but it'll have to wait until tonight, probably. The weather's nice and I have to eat something and run around outside and sightsee since I'm only here for another two and a half weeks. Was supposed to go with a friend who's in town, but plans changed, so off I go!

. . . aaaand hopefully the apartment door will NOT BE OPEN (still freaked out by that) when I get back. DDDDDDD:

Thank you for the invites [personal profile] troisroyaumes and [personal profile] canis_m but I did get in through OpenID. Lemme know if you need them back? I can forward/send them to someone else for you (I can, right?)? ^___^

Oh yeah, the unsecured wireless came back in the apartment. No idea for how long, though.
